Asian Tapestry of Grassroots Situation, Calls and Demands
Asian Peoples Calls, Initiatives and Actions on Climate Change
(APCIACC)

Climate Crisis is not for Market but for Social Justice!
Peoples’ Sovereignty over Land, Water and Forest!

Asian Peoples Calls, Initiatives and Actions on Climate Change (APCIACC)” isa grassroots-based assembly that will present the voice and face of the people most affected by the serious impacts of climate change – the grassroots sectors in Asia.

Spearheaded by the Center for Environmental Concerns-Philippines (CEC) and the Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) of Thailand, along with their respective country climate change networks and in collaboration with other Asian grassroots organisations, civil society organisations and international networks, the APCIACC will be holding a regional assembly of the grassroots sector.

This regional assembly is part of APCIACC series of events that will take place parallel to the 9th session and 7th session of the UNFCCC’s AWG-KP and AWG-LCA , respectively.  The meetings will be held on 28 September to 9 October 2009, at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC) of the UNESCAP, Bangkok, Thailand, which is the final leg of meetings leading to the Conference of Parties 15 (COP 15) in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 2009.

The events will be a regional grassroots venue for exchange and expression of local climate change issues and coping mechanisms, calls and actions towards asserting their right to access and conserve the Earth’s resources, while protecting and advancing their welfare over the global environmental and economic crisis. They shall also serve as a build up of civil society action to the COP 15.

“Asian Tapestry of Grassroots Situation, Calls and Demands”is part of the APCIACC actions to consolidate broad sectoral movements to assert people’s sovereignty over the environment and natural resources. The tapestry will bring the situation of displacement, hunger and poverty in relation to environmental and climate crisis experienced by grassroots peoples in Asia to international attention, particularly to global leaders and negotiators in the COP 15.

Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is supporting the initiative from the perspective of human rights of rural and indigenous women to make their voices heard in relation to the environmental and climate crisis.
