Sustainable Development Goals and Post 2015 development agenda: the Gender Dimension- 21 March 2012

How will Rio+20 contribute to that discussion? Are the proposed SustainableDevelopment Goals useful in achieving the interlinked goals of gender equality,economic and ecological justice? What lessons can we draw from the experiencein implementing the MDGs? The dialogue will explore different views on the limitationsand possibilities of such indicators, targets and goals in measuring and addressing genderand other disparities.

 

Women’s Critical Perspectives on the ‘Green Economy’- 27 March 2012

Background: There is concern that proposed Green Economy roadmaps might be used and misused togreen-wash existing unsustainable economic practices that lead to inequities and infringe on the rights ofeffected peoples and future generations. Should Rio+20 not fundamentally aim to transform the currenteconomic paradigm?Objective: The side event will highlight practical examples of rights-based approaches to ensure womenare not negatively impacted by Sustainable Development policies. The event will also highlight the roleof women in initiatives and projects that do contribute to genuine sustainable livelihoods, and contributerecommendations to the UNCSD process on how such initiatives can be supported.
