INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE - SEPTEMBER 21
United for Peace (Chiang Mai) and the Friends of Burma Coalition ( Thailand ) invite you to join a candlelight vigil on the International Day of Peace, September 21st. The meeting point is Tapae Gate and everyone should bring a candle (and maybe an umbrella too!).
Leading up to the Peace Day there will be activities around the world to call for everyone everywhere to observe a day of peace and non-violence on September 21. In Chiang Mai musicians and artists from United for Peace (Chiang Mai) will be singing and performing for peace at different locations prior to the International Day of Peace.
Friends of Burma Coalition ( Thailand ) are also organising activities to raise awareness about the peace violations in Burma . Women will organise multi-faith prayer sessions, write poems and essays on the theme of peace. These activities will also be held on the Bangladesh-Burma and India-Burma borders as well as in the Karen and Karenni refugee camps on the Thai-Burma border.
United for Peace and Friends of Burma Coalition hope that other groups will also organise different peace events and that everyone will come together to meet at Tapae Gate at 6.00pm on September 21 for the candlelight vigil.
