Letter of Solidarity and Appeal for UN Special Rapporteur Sigma Huda
UN Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children Sigma Huda was arrested on 5 July. She is suffering from poor heart and kidney conditions. Whatever allegations and charges brought against her, she is entitled to proper medical treatment.
Sigma Huda is a foremost women’s human rights activist who has spent most of her life fighting for human rights.
APWLD is very concerned as we receive reports that she is not getting the proper medical treatment in prison. Without proper medical attention, her conditions may potentially be life-threatening.
We call on the Bangladesh government to provide Sigma Huda her basic human right to proper medication and treatment. The government should be held responsible and liable should anything happen to people in their custody.
