Last year APWLD gathered your support for our nomination of Nana as a new independent expertfor the Asia Region to the new UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women in Law and Practice.

Good News!
We have just learned from the report of the Human Rights Council that the Consultative Group is unanimously supporting Nana for the mandate. The report also makes special note of the Nana’s work with the SEA Women’s Caucus on ASEAN. To add to the good news, Zarizana Abdul Aziz and Shanthi Dairiam were also noted in the report with general support from the Consultative Group.

In the next months the Human Rights Council President will have broad consultations based on the recommendations of the Consultative Group. During this time APWLD will be gathering further support in the lead up to the final appointment in March.

We hope we can further rally together and have Nana appointed as the new Independent Expert!
