Vacancy for Conference Organiser

Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is currently inviting women from Asia Pacific countries with relevant experience and skills to apply for the position of Conference Organiser. This is an exciting position that would allow the successful applicant to be part of a organising the first Asia Pacific Feminist Forum.

APWLD is a regional network of women’s organisations and activists in Asia Pacific, committed to enabling women to use law as an instrument of social change for equality, justice and development. APWLD’s members are drawn from 25 countries and the secretariat is based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This position will be responsible for coordinating the Asia Pacific Feminist Forum to be held in late 2011. The successful candidate will work closely with APWLD membership, particularly the organising committee responsible for the Conference. The position will report directly to the Regional Coordinator of APWLD.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  1. Demonstrated commitment to the promotion of women’s human rights in Asia Pacific ;
  2. High level project management skills including event organising, programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  3. Minimum of two years experience in development work, women’s rights, event organising at the national or regional level;
  4. Knowledge of innovative approaches to enable participation and learning from diverse groups, including grassroots women;
  5. Excellent command of English language, both oral and written; and demonstrated ability to write program reports and project proposals;
  6. A degree in social sciences; humanities, human rights, women’s studies or an equivalent field;
  7. Good interpersonal skills, with ability to network and liaise in a multi-cultural environment and to develop strong professional relationship with members and other stakeholders;
  8. Proficient computer skills.

Key tasks:

  • Liaises with APWLD members and organising committee to produce a 6 month plan for the Asia Pacific Feminist Forum
  • Develop funding proposals for the conference
  • With members develop an innovative programme for the conference
  • Organise the logistics of the conference
  • Document the conference
  • Provide a report and the recommendations of the conference
  • Supervise volunteers who may be involved with the conference
  • Handles other tasks as Regional Coordinator requires and/or as assigned by the Programme and Management Committee and Task Force members.

Remuneration

Salary for the position is USD 1300 per month. Other benefits include contributions to employment pension fund; housing and relocation allowances for staff required to re-locate to Chiang Mai.

This is a short-term contract that expires 31st March 2012.
